Yoga and Mental Health

There is a growing body of research to back up yoga’s mental health benefits. Yoga increases body awareness, relieves stress, reduces muscle tension, strain, and inflammation, sharpens attention and concentration, and calms and centers the nervous system. – From Psychology Today

Yoga is a powerful way to get inside of our bodies and more fully experience ourselves, our feelings, and ultimately: our lives. It can lead us to our authentic selves, help us make better decisions related to our health and well-being, and if we are so courageous: we can transform into that person we’ve always wanted to be, and live our sacred dreams. Yes, it can do that.

Doing yoga within a supportive group environment also has benefits.  Some of which are: being able to talk about the challenges and joys of the practice, holding one another accountable to show up and do the work, and having a supportive group of like-minded people to connect with about other areas of our lives that we aspire to nurture and grow.

That’s why Returning Veterans of Diablo Valley is creating its first yoga group to begin practice in early to mid August of 2019. Sessions will be held on Sundays at 9am at the Pleasant Hill YMCA and will last 8 weeks. Any military Veteran who is interested in cultivating a deeper connection between mind and body, and other Veterans, is encouraged to register. Sessions are held at no charge. By registering you are committing to other Veterans and the group that you will do your best to attend all sessions.

 

Please register sooner than later – since these classes tend to fill up quickly and we are limiting the number of participants.
